Our therapeutic approach will provide the best support

Our therapeutic approach

Affinity Children’s Care provides help and support for children and young people who have experienced difficult times through early trauma abuse and separations by facilitating a full range of assessment and interventions.

As specialists in attachment, Affinity Children’s Care aims to equip children and young people to form and maintain meaningful reciprocal relationships to understand their past, live in the present and look forward to their future.

A Registered Mental Health Nurse / Registered Psychotherapist supports the home, staff and young people, through a framework that we are adopting to enable us to track the progress of a young person’s journey from our screening and matching process, which identify the specific areas requiring intervention.

We will provide sessions to young people, where it is assessed that they will benefit from these. For those young people who are resistant to formal sessions, we will ensure they have a more creative input that suits their needs and ability. We want to build skills and resilience in the young people, by providing access to social skills focused work and practical tools to help them overcome their difficulties.

One of the pivotal elements of this approach will be the monthly Team around the child (TAC) meetings. These will be chaired by the TAC Co-ordinator and involve the homes manager and the keyworkers. This has a clear function in monitoring the placement and care plan for each young person.

Mental health

Affinity Children’s Care will work collaboratively with local CAMHS services and other specialist teams to help those young people who are struggling with their mental health; any support will form a basis of the young person’s plans within the home.

Initial assessment

At Affinity Children’s Care we believe it is essential to undertake an assessment at referral, intake and at strategic points during the placement. The initial assessment will incorporate key domains of the young person’s function and development needs including educational, emotional/behavioural, social and learning skills.

The initial assessment period’s findings will inform the placement plan, treatment goals and educational needs and crucially, will begin to define parameters for outcome.

Childhood and adolescence is characterised by development and change; placement plans will reflect and accommodate these changes, taking into account any support and information from external agencies like CAMHS. Young People will always be supported to attend any appointments with these services.

Individual personalised programmes

We at Affinity Children’s Care have trained staff and therapists to help children through their journey, with the help of life coaching, NLP and recovery coaching. Every child’s needs are individually assessed to ensure that the right care is planned to deal with areas such as, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), autism, anxiety, stress, depression, self esteem and other emotional behavioural disorders.
